i know what you’re thinking - another bike?! hell yeah!!! this one’s sweet, a purpose-built touring bike with canti posts, horizontal rear d.o.’s, curved top tube, burly rear rack mounts, and a real nice lugged crown fork. 29″ x 2.1″ tires fit fine and the chainstays are Long to accomodate rear panniers and gonzo abusive tours.

a few homemade headset tools and necessary accrewdiments for proper bicycle assembling
the frame has a colorful history, which probably gets more/less interesting each time i try tell it. the important part is that it’s current build includes parts from at least 3 other bikes (scavenger) and that it’s got a 17-20 teeth dingle fixed cog/16 tooth freewheel on the rear hub, 37mm Paselas, Nitto Randauneur bars, cross brakes, and 175 mm mountain bike cranks. it’s pretty quick and real versatile. i took it on a 20 mile test and tune ride yesterday (rather than hit up the first good day of skiing this season), riding the entire length of the Truckee River bike path, then continuing on eastbound in the dirt next to the train tracks a ways. after crossing the Truckee on a train bridge and hike-a-biking and trail riding up a steep side canyon i stumbled onto a shanty town. i promptly turned around and decided to explore the dirt roads and California Trail koisks that were jutting out of the sagebrush in improbable looking places. hmm, how’d that be for an adventure bike tour, ride the California Emmigrant trail (it’d be Hard with lots and lots of boot packing and riding on jeep roads). after sneaking around the sewage treatment plant and regaining trails/roads i emerged in the Hidden Valley area and wandered my way back to the river path at Rock Blvd. from there it was westbound to get home, have a beer, wash the mud off the new bike and adjust the seat height for the Shredder. it’s ready for the world!
see you in the mountains,

Shredder christens it, “Dahlia”

I don’t know about you. I think I created a monster taking you on that Washoe Valley ride. You snub the first good SNOW of the year for your third road ride in a month!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
WTF did Jason do to his car?
-M
it’s all part of The Plan, surviving the 24 Hours of Old Pueblo next weekend. i’d probably have hit the trails if they weren’t muddy. i don’t know if it’s fair to call long fixie rides “road rides.”
Jason’s car should be called “The Deer Slayer.” too bad he didn’t bring home some venison. i guess the damned animal got right up and took off. maybe we’ll just call his car “The Deer Magnet.”

whatever, check out the newest “noticias” post.

That is some sexy shit right there. How’s the dingle cog working out?
it held up fine for my TRBP tour yesterday. the Shredder will probably switch to high rev mode for the climb back home from work tonight.
hmm, they make a dingle freewheel too, right? maybe go 16-19 freewheel… that’s up to her though. i’m done tweaking it.
thanks for the dingle hook-up, Evan.

the bike thief vid is cool. kinda racey. when i was a kid someone stole my Schwinn Predator. a few weeks later, my Mom was driving home from somewhere and saw a kid on it, standin’ around with his punkass friends. she and drove up to him got out of her car, took the bike from him, and drove home. needless to say, i was stoked. also needless to say, the kid never F’d with me again. my Mom must’ve scared him. she looks like a sweet little lady - in combat boots ridin Harleys…
ever seen the documentary “God’s Children”?
nope.
I meant the link, “our next tour”
I got to see if this will sort the links by date added…

120 miles of playa riding sounds fantastic! no washboard out there, just a lot of alkaline dust. i think fixed is the way to go, minimize drivetrain blues.
how about late April/early May? i should be ready for another study break by then. how much time would we need to get to that summit?
my hands are sweatin’ just thinking about it!

ps- just noticed hydrometeors to the west. gonna be a wet ride home tonight!
Check the summitpost page for King Lear Peak. It’s a day trip. I’d consider making it either a gnarly mountain day, i.e. as long as it takes, or an over nighter. There is supposedly a spring at the end of the road.
Even mor gnar. Ride there from here…
Either way, Cameron said he was in.
-M
is Cameron agreeing to riding from here, or driving the beer truck to the trailhead? i’d be stoked to have him along, he just needs to know what he’s getting into. what say we do some recon tonight at the Basin, get some cheap beer and look at maps.
