Powday: Omega

[?]

I love it when I pull into the lot on a powday up @ Mt. Rose and then V-Nasty and Red Beard Pull in, followed by The McD’s and Griss. A great little team we have! The Ape and I skied our brains out. It was rad! I think I cracked a rib augering into some rocks on the slide side, came out of it lucky though.

The morning turned bitter in line for the Northwest around 11:00. A skier collapsed in front of Griss and Red Beard. Bystanders began CPR within seconds, but I fear it wasn’t enough as by the time B and I got back down from another run they were still assisting him.

Thanks to Shawn, Cameron and the others who tried to render aid. A toast to the fallen warrior, hopes, thoughts, prayers…

it’s not everyday someone spontaneously dies in your arms (hasn’t happened to me yet). Cam, Griss, and Erika were awesome, helping in every way possible until relieved by the medically qualified. i don’t know anything about the guy’s life history, but i’ll remember this for a long time. after being hustled onto the chair by the lifties, the guy sitting next to me said, “i sure hope that when i go, my last moments are spent skiing awesome powder.”

thanks for sharing an otherwise amazing powder day.

Long time bacon lover, first time poster.

This morning’s parking lot union was the reason I love Rose. Thanks for turns boys and the lift home Japhy.

As for our fallen friend, it was a first for me too and i think the take away lesson is you’re never prepared enough. For him it was a lift line, but for any of us it could have been miles from the nearest road. we would do well to learn more about emergency response and first aid. i don’t want to stabilize any of your greasy heads any time soon.

    Same roll call tomorrow?

Yikes! That’s twice this year that I’ve heard from a close source of someone dropping dead in front of them. The first was on a basketball court, and now at Mount Rose. I guess if I had to go, I’d prefer to go on skis rather than in my Chuck Taylor’s…if I HAD to go.

Sounds like I missed a great day, regardless. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it and finally meet most of you’s guys.

I give props to ya’ll that gave aid to the warrior in need…so often the average turn their backs, not for the lack of compassion, but of fear they’ll do somethin wrong and quite possibly legal consequences. I feel safe in the hands of the geek, Cameron, and Erika (do I know her). Very admirable my friends!
I might B/C 2morrow with Smokes if the avy danger is on chill mode, and if anyone else is interested give me a shout, otherwise it’s the bowl!
I thought about gettin rid of the Sickbirds, they feel a bit big at times (185cm), but they fucked shit up at the bowl 2day. A good B/C ski, but I want somethin for everythin. Still might loose em if anyone is interested.

just spoke with a friend at rose and he’s confirmed that the man we helped yesterday died. makes things a little heavy after an otherwise great morning in the bc. we stayed on low angle stuff and in the tress, but we did dig a pit and things seem to have consolidated nicely. mcD, did you and oso get out?

nooner- you still got those extra bindings laying around???

Thank for the update. Hard not to personalize that whole thing into something it’s not.

Glad you were careful in the BC today. Things are wiggy this year…

What a rollercoaster 2/27/07 was. I won’t forget that one for awhile. It is sad that a fellow fun junkie past yesterday, but I can honestly say when it’s my time there isn’t a much better way to go. My guess is his last few minutes he had a shit eating grin, ear to ear like the rest of us. I’m also proud of the way those of us involved handled the situation. Erica and Cameron, salute.

    Gris,
