North American Handmade Bike Show (byznatches)
I got some comments on my Columbus SL T-shirt at the show. If any of you were able to remember the website, you can get them HERE.

I can honestly say that I have no idea if there were any hott babes there since Smella straight up ditched me right off the bat: all the eye candy was steel! That one above was build by a guy named Greg Townsend. He likes to work with lugs. On this one he put a fillet down on the lug to make a smoother radius at the junction. It looked sweet!

These biked were pretty popular at the show. A lot of racks(again only the steel variety, a lot of funky bars. Not a lot of practicality. I have to say that this design appeals to me quite a bit after our Saline Valley trip…

A bad exposure, but a cool bike none the less.

Joseph Ahearne makes some cool frames. Another guy makes the racks. They make a kickass team.
I liked this frame.

There were a number of longtail designs. Including some by Fraser cycles. Although I have to hand it to Xtracycle, I don’t see how these other guys can really make much of a difference with a bike that costs more than a used car. Which is presumably the market they’re trying to replace. Chances are a hipster who can afford a $6000 cargo bike also has a Prius, and Beemer to bring home their 20 lbs of organic kale from the Co-op.
All my bike pics of the show are on Flickr. There’s a link in the photo sidebar down and to the right.

Other bits: Our man Steve Garro of Coconino Cycles won Framebuilder of the show! Congrats Steve!!!!
And Sean McGinness of Calavera cycles got his wish to sit in a plaster pirate’s lap.

All in all it was like my last, and only, trip to a strip club. Lots of candy, but no sweets. A show like that needs a pump-track. My rib/shoulder were killing me the whole time and the mere thought of a bunny hop was painful. Oh well. I’ll set up the Stately Pleasure Bike to spin to work…
Peace-out kiddos!

ps if PJ got a shot of spandex man go ahead and add it in…
