Keyesville Kountdown

[?]

Yo,

So far GBG is in and McD was in then out then he waffled a little…

Reedster?

M-1

I’ll be riding the blue beauty pictured above. It’s a Skykomish Granite Point. The better of two Tange Chro-Mo steel bikes sold @ Costco in the early 1990’s. It came with a full Shimano LX 7-speed rapidfire group. It was my first MTB and I rode it until absolutely no component was trail worthy. I might still be using the cranks, but the extractor threads stripped out and I had to pull them off with a gear puller. I’ll try to find a snapshot of me on it backintheday when we get to my parent’s house Friday.

It will be my first real MTB race, my first SS race, my first DH race, my first race on that frame and @ 24 miles the longest SS ride I’ve ever done all with the brokenest ribs I’ve ever had. As long as Chuck Norris isn’t there I should be OK.

just call me wambly rider for being on and off again about going to the race. that’s OK though, it keeps em guessin!

you’ll do great out there, Wolfy. you’ve got total street cred for shreddin’ on your “M1.”

hey have you ever tried finding just the right gear ratio so you don’t even need a chain tensioner?

How about Wed we meet up in Evan’s creek around 7:00 and head back to the St.Lawrenece street temporary Bachelor Pad and hang in the basement for some Longhammer and wheel truing and find out?

When I first moved to Reno I had my Diamond Back Apex. It was the first mountain bike I ever owned and I loved it. I wish I still had it. It would be perfect for the vintage mountain bike race there in Keyesville.

I don’t think I’ll make it either, but nothing is certain.

    Good luck with your racing.

PS: I’ve seen posts on MTBR in the singlespeed forum about finding magic gears for different bikes and chainstay lengths. It might be worth a search or two. I had a Supergo Access that I could run a 34×20 with no tensioner. It was beautiful.

Did you want me to bring out my freewheels? I have a Shimano 17T and a Dicta 20T, might help w/ the experimenting?

i’ve got Novatec stamped steel cogs in 16, 17, 18, and 20. i don’t think i have a 19. i’ve also heard about using 1/2 links (?, Evan at the bike shop mentioned them), so i think you can get it pretty much nailed down w/o a tensioner.

ohhhhhh, man. speaking of wheel projects… i’ve gotta post something.

I’ll get that 17t from you wed. I set up the 18t and it’s a weeeeeeee ebitty bit too tight. I’ll try to get a halflink tomorrow.

Rode Evans on the crossie. Felt good.

Hey peeps, I rode up keystone on the Blurrie, met up with some fellow Truckeeians, did a couple small loops, and down evans to drop them off only to head back up Evans for another small loop and back down Keystone to the coma…I peddled my bike standing up the whole time! Why is this?! Hmmmmm, 1×1 maybe…comin soon to a trail near you!

It’s all over. I just picked up a Pintle chain from college cyclery. Which, as you are no doubt aware, is a chain made entirely of half links. They only had the Freestyle model, so I went with it. Once I find my mgaic gear and affix this magical chain, the grissly bike geek won’t have a chance to compete against my stupiferous ghettofabulosity!

    WHuuuuuu HAA HAAAA HAAAAA HUUUuuuu…

Chuck Norris shits fixed-gear hubs, and when he cries, his tears can cure cancer.
Unfortunately, not even a fixed-gear hub passing through his sphincty can make Chuck Norris cry.

Hey, a rigid! Now yer talkin’. I still have, and ride daily, my ‘93 RockHopper, with original Shimano Altus A10 components. It’s pretty ghetto but it did (barely) survive Slickrock.

Had to replace the fork last year when it distintegrated right in the middle of Fort Collins’ busiest street…the whole thing is getting’ flexy but I think I’ll ride it until it achieves structural failure.

now that’s more like it. so now you can run that thing fixed, hahaha? fixed trail ridin is kinda sporty… oh by the way, when you’re ready to take all those cable stops off the frame i’ll warm up the angle grinder and dremmel. don’t cut that der hanger off just yet, i see a bottle opener conversion waiting to happen there.

good luck at the Classic. i’ll be home, sweeping floors, sipping beer with breakfast, and “biking off” while considering going into the lab to werk.
