Nooner’s effort wheelsmithin’

[?]

word on the street is that it’s just a matter of days until Nooner takes delivery of Tahoe/Reno’s newest Vulture single speed. to my knowledge, it’ll be the 5th Vulture dwelling in the area. I’d be happy to say 50th… but not yet. keep makin’ the fly frames, Vulture, and they’ll sell themselves! i can’t say how many times people have stopped me to ask about my bike and jesticulated about someday, sooner or later, getting something just like it. right on then - best get on that b/c sooner is better than later. think of all the trail riding you’ll miss out on!!!

anyway, since Nooner was game to take on the “herculean” task of building up his new SS frame himself (just for fun), i extended access to the garage and tools to provide a safe haven for his learnin’ and wrench turnin’ efforts. the caveats being that i get to watch-help-taunt while drinking as much beer as i want and listen to any crazy shitkicker music that surfaces in the iPod’s shuffle algorithm. didn’t phase Nooner a bit. here he is lacin’ up his new “blinglespeed” WTB hubs with some tough as shit Sun Singletrack rims and DT Swiss spokes. Good choices, Nooner. if you win races, it won’t be b/c you’ve got the lightest wheels on the block, but then again, if you walk out, it won’t be b/c your shit was wambly.

spokin'

tensionin

with a few sober turns of the spoke key today, i’m happy to say, these puppies are shred ready

blinglespeed

soooo, now all we need is a frame…

adios,

Japhy rider

29er? Those wheels look dainty and pathetic neck to Nooner’s awesome physical… (need a moment)

Ok, so what’s the scoop on rims? I have a hub I got from GBG to build up. I was thinking of trying the new Velocity rim or the Delgado Race.

What is on El Buitre Negro?

Glad you guys had fun drinking and rimming out in the garage together.

i think we may need to add a rating system to the titles of our posts - “EXPLICIT” or something like “PG-13 for adult language and sexual content.” all speculation aside, it was fun spoking and tensioning wheels with Nooner. good work, so far. once you’ve covered some ground with them we’ll see how they hold up.

By the way, the wheels will be wambly, broken, tacoed, thieved, or wheelin on their own before this hombre walks out!
Thanks again for the help McD, can’t wait to shred with you, Miss SAS, and possibly el buitre himself. Shit, I can’t wait to shred with all ya’ll!

Hey guys and ladies, I think I’m gonna pass on the beer and beats for the absolute fear of drinkin and drivin. I’m actually pretty good at it, but the DUI chances sky rockets that time of night. So Asian Philosophy and grape juice it is, with the sick roommates. Somebody have a TBS bar-b-q soon damn it!
PS - Provided the one speed hunk of metal is here this week I’ll be ridin this weekend…come one, come all!

gud call, Nooner. i found myself in the same boat - writing on the wall says “you drive, you party, you walk or you risk a major f-up.” moral of the story is… walk there, tell someone responsible proximately where the “where” is, and walk home. better yet, party and don’t loose yer cool. or bring a bed roll. reminds me of what my alter ego - “Q rider” roars upon entering a battle… F-it, i’m walkin’ home

    that’s enough code speak.

the ‘rage is ready for the next Vulture. wheels are still there. i even laid up Nooner’s first choice of used Protapers next to his hand laced wheels - gasp - (those bars came direct from Vulture himself on my own bike, 3 winters ago) and the 2.5″ Weirwolf and 2.25″ TrailBear tires that Nooner chose. don’t forget to bring some new tubes for your wheels, N. and beer. bikes built w/o the influence of beer are not guaranteed to perform adequate under situations of high stress, extreme bonk, gnar heat, screaming barfies induced by severe cold, hydrometeors, wind, or even perfect room condition temps. other than that, you should be OK.

dude, it’s tomorrow!!! your frame should be here by sunset (make a clint eastwood spaghetti western hawk cry wind howl sound effect here). probably tomorrow, maybe Saturday, or Monday.

    Japhy rider
