happy Friday. it’s St. Patrick’s Day eve, do you know where your Sig. O is? i sure don’t. i’m home alone and gonna sleep this tasty buzz off then go see what hell the Strippers are raising at the Keysville Classic. travelin’ light - a moto, a Pendleton for a bedroll, a tarp, a tooth brush, a coffee cup, and a flask of Anejo. that should do it. from there i’ll rely on my finite stores of onboard Calories and the good kindness of strangers.
stay tuned…

Dr. Shredmore was last heard from on the classic Bacon Strip with an excellent post of live vid of The Circle Jerks “Wild in the Street” and is thought to have missed out on our transmogrification to a Wordpress blog. Perhaps she/he’s on some intergalactic entrada and will return from his/her travels with super excellent stories to tell us. Dr. Shredmore’s exact appearance is not known, but speculation is that he/she’s got close cut hair, dark eyes, a thick skull, and large feet. A composite sketch digitally enhanced image was generated to aid our readers in recognizing the gud Doctor.
If anyone has seen this persona or is in contact with Dr. Shredmore, please let her/him know his/her presence on the The Bacon Strip forum for the misunderstood, misanthropic, misguided, misdemeanor, or otherwise dismissed is just plain missed and that he/she’s encouraged to resume posting the way back.

Some of us here in Bacon Strip Land are discovering how fun it can be to do mixed road, dirt-road, trail, breakfast, camping riding on a bike. Well wouldn’t it be cool if someone was working on a project to get from Pyramid to Tahoe by bike (as opposed to the J.R. route down Grey’s creek or something…)?
Here’s the text of an article printed today in the RGJ:
Landowners want protections before bikeway moves ahead
ASSOCIATED PRESSPosted: 3/14/2007
Advocates of a bikeway that will eventually stretch from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake asked Nevada legislators Tuesday to help them get rid of one big obstacle: landowner fear of lawsuits.
Advocates urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to pass Senate Bill 132, which would protect landowners from lawsuits that could be brought by trail users.
The bill also would force plaintiffs who unsuccessfully sue landowners or trail-building organizations to pay the other side’s legal fees.
Debbie Shosteck, a lawyer for a group pushing for a Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway, said the Union Pacific Railroad and other landowners along the route are worried they’d be sued by people using trails near their lands.
That could cost them money even if they’re on the right side of the law, Shosteck said.
“They say even if the recreational use statute protects us, we’re still going to get sued, and we’re going to defend that suit,” said Shosteck.
Removing landowners’ fears of being sued would help advocates negotiate public access to those lands, Shosteck said.
Even with this change, advocates say a completed bike
trail could be years or decades away.
Carrie Sandstedt, director of the Nevada Responsible Trails Alliance, supported the bill but asked for amendments to remove language that exempts trail-building organizations from doing trail maintenance.
“It is not good public policy to create a trail and not maintain it,” Sandstedt said. “You would not build a highway and not maintain it. Trails that are legally constructed should also be maintained and not left to degrade and become potentially hazardous.”
What an awesome trail this will be when it’s done! Going to be an awesome bike camping route. Thanks Carrie!

Yo,
So far GBG is in and McD was in then out then he waffled a little…
Reedster?

I’ll be riding the blue beauty pictured above. It’s a Skykomish Granite Point. The better of two Tange Chro-Mo steel bikes sold @ Costco in the early 1990’s. It came with a full Shimano LX 7-speed rapidfire group. It was my first MTB and I rode it until absolutely no component was trail worthy. I might still be using the cranks, but the extractor threads stripped out and I had to pull them off with a gear puller. I’ll try to find a snapshot of me on it backintheday when we get to my parent’s house Friday.
It will be my first real MTB race, my first SS race, my first DH race, my first race on that frame and @ 24 miles the longest SS ride I’ve ever done all with the brokenest ribs I’ve ever had. As long as Chuck Norris isn’t there I should be OK.

Smella Forwarded this to me. Perhapse we should take a lesson from RedBeard on this and come up with a uinified message and plan of attack. As I see it Interstates and bikes are not compatible and Eastlake and the road on the west side are FAR preferable for bike travel, but could use some improvements. Please comment here and then incorporate them in your message to NDOT:

Dear Interested Party:
The Nevada Department of Transportation is seeking your thoughts,
ideas and opinions regarding bicycle riding through Washoe Valley.Current practice prohibits bicycles and pedestrians on urban
interstates (i.e. Interstate 80 through Reno/Sparks, the US 395
freeway through Reno, and now the new US 395 freeway through Carson).
The Office of Traffic Safety, the Nevada Bicycle Board, and the Nevada
Department of Transportation all agree the urban interstate
prohibition of bicycles and pedestrians is a valid safety strategy for
all parties involved.Recently US 395 through Washoe Valley was signed requiring bicycles to
exit. Posted speed on US 395 is currently 70 mph for vehicular
traffic. There are alternate routes available to bicycles and
pedestrians with lower speeds and less traffic (i.e. East Lake Blvd.
along the east side of the valley and Old US 395 along the west side
of Washoe Valley.) However, the alternate routes may lack other
attributes such as shoulder widths, sight distances, etc. Please provide us with your views on the new prohibition of bicycles
through Washoe Valley? Are the new signs impacting you in a positive
or negative way? Do you bicycle through Washoe Valley and if so what
is your preferred route and reason? What conditions on the alternate
routes impact your route decision? We would appreciate your written comments and concerns on this issue
by the end of April. Please pass this on to others in your group
who may also wish to submit their comments and concerns. Please send your written comments to:

WTF my friends, that’s right, some dudes are actually putting it on.

I expect a good TBS turnout for this. SeanM and I are rallying as Team DryHumpTheHomeComingQueen.
What more could there possibly be to say?

I got some comments on my Columbus SL T-shirt at the show. If any of you were able to remember the website, you can get them HERE.

I can honestly say that I have no idea if there were any hott babes there since Smella straight up ditched me right off the bat: all the eye candy was steel! That one above was build by a guy named Greg Townsend. He likes to work with lugs. On this one he put a fillet down on the lug to make a smoother radius at the junction. It looked sweet!
