If by recommending that cyclists stay off the streets at night Steve Friday admits that the RPD has little handle on traffic violations and reckless or distracted drivers, I suggest Chief of Police, Michael Poehlman, resign, as most public officials do after admitting in the press that they can’t do their job, or put out a news release outlining his plan for assuring safety for everyone at all times.
Bicycles are a legitimate transportation mode; it is time we align our laws and streets to reflect that. Increased bicycle commutership is a good thing that will clear traffic and the air, not a nuisance to motorists or a safety hazard. The bigger dangers to our safety are the drivers distracted by cell phones drifting into the bike lane.

P-Quad: Poedunks Present Peavine Pancakes!
It’s early and you’re grinding up Keystone Canyon on an empty stomach, fighting back the sleep as you negotiate rocky trail in a pre-caffinated stupor. You clean the rocks by the Corolla; you make the off-camber section without slipping down to the creek bed below. And when you crest the hill next to the radio towers, there they are: the Poedunks, slinging pancakes and frying bacon in the chilly morning mist. You throw down your bike, rip out your plate and fork and let into that stack like a vulture devouring a rotting armadillo…

On May 12th Keep Truckee Madows Beautiful (http://www.ktmb.org/) is organizing the 2nd Annual Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup. They say, “the cleanup will focus on the open spaces in our community.” And we know your favorite open space is all the killer trail on Peavine.
To motivate a rally of cyclists The Poedunks, a newly formed, IMBA affiliated trail stewardship club, (with teambaconstrip.com and dhreno.com) are going to haul a full camping kitchen up to the Radio Towers, through Keystone Canyon, by bike to cook you breakfast before you continue on your ride.

But this is no ordinary ride. With your trailer, panniers or backpack, you’ll hunt down and extract any bits of trash and junk you can find and deliver them to a waiting dumpster at the Keystone Trailhead. We will be using human power to clean up the Keystone-Evan’s Non-Motorized Zone and beyond; a mountain that holds our favorite backyard trails, sweet views and the essential Nevada paydirt.
Please join us for pancakes by 8:00! Bring a plate, cup and a fork for yourself, and we’ll hook you up with the rest. Let us know if you plan on coming out so we know how many pounds of bacon to bring. Those who commute to the trailhead by bike will also get chocolate chips in their pancakes… Or ride up the night before and bivy with us on the mountain. Don’t worry, it’s still too cold for the scorpions to be out yet (I think).

every renaissance dirtbag single speeding vagabundo del mundo needs one of these analog GPS units mounted to their handlebars. here’s one way put the adventure back in your tour and leave the spare batteries at home…
my sole experiences with old school maping equipment was using a theodolite to plot exact coordinates of dust devils in Eldorado Valley, way back in the late 1900’s. like slide rules, the fundamental theorem, and first principles of thermodynamics, if you ain’t got the basics, you ain’t got it.
what ever i had, i lost a long time ago. still looking for it now though - i can’t remember where i set it down.

Perhaps the people they are trying to lure to the area are the kind who are willing to become political to get things they want, like better bicycle transportation infrastructure and better management and protection of open spaces. If so, let me be the first to show you the trails!

The little website is cute, but really holds no information, and links to none. Although it is pretty fun… Oh and who likes the logo and can decipher it’s riddle?

ps Why are we always piggy-packing Tahoe onto our city? Who here says they’re from Reno-Tahoe? What other cities identify themselves with another entity that is miles outside it’s border? Is Tahoe going to start marketing itself as Tahoe-Reno? Lest we forget how they refer to us!
“If we’re backing up it’s just to get a running start…“
not at all sure what’s happening in this photo…
Got the scoop on Sean and Matt’s road trip, so I initated the BBQ countdown and used it a motivation to pull the trigger on a new grill and finally become a man. We had Matt, Sean, Mark, Amanda, Lee, Cameron, Barrett, Dawn, Jani, Jason, Danielle and Vanessa! It was killer!
Huck Tater showed up with his 4×4 and a long piece of chain thinking that meant we were going to have a good old down home motorheadfest. Others present were Dale, Randy, Jim, Steve, Don, Wayne and Marnie.
Anyway, We cleared out the four cars in the canyon proper. The Celica was a mess. The back end was levered up in the air and the engine compartment was totally full of rocks and sand, alluvium for the geeks. It was right in the center of the “creek” and I guess over ten+ years you get a bit of flow.

spoof? the news said a zoo veterinarian in Taiwan was tending to a sick crocodile when… SNAP! it sure looks unlikely that the rest of the body will get the hand back…
wellll, only after shooting the croc a few times to piss it off, the hand was retrieved and reattached to the zoo keeper. no shit. that’s too bad - “stupid should hurt”
drooooooppppp iiiitttttt, droooppp itt!!! how do you say “dude, watch this…” in Taiwanese?
ON A LIGHTER NOTE
some road warriors with AZ roots went out on a limb to visit our adobe and shred the trails on Peavine. Stephen “the most widely sighted Coconino rider ever” and his super cool single speeding wife Lex got a good sample of our local trails, and probably more than an ear-full of how rad i think riding bikes around here is.

thanks for stopping in to visit! we’ll look forward to news about the rest of their biking and winery road trip. meeting friends of friends, riding bikes and sharing beers and tall tales of misadventure - the network grows! late Sunday morning they rolled out of town with a growler of Risky Biscuit barley wine and a belly full of the Pnuematic’s walnut waffles. now how’s that for local flavor?

See you in the mountains!
