sean in D-Ville!

Yo,

Where do people camp for D-Ville? SeanM has a scoop on a spot, and is set to make some reservations. If others are interested he’s offered up a spot in his zip-together sleeping bags. What a generous guy! The dhReno crew is going and they say that the DH fills up same day, so you better get on it. XC should be easy enough to get into.

  1. Tennile and I always get a spot at the Wild Plum camp ground in Sierra City. It’s hands down the best place. It’s an easy ride to the start. They don’t take reservations but we get there early and have never had a problem. The spots are plenty big to have half a dozen tents.

GBG, I might be up for the whole Downieville/camp thing provided I have the right scheduel this year with work.
I hear your making the big ride this friday with the Backcountry boys, I should be on that cramp fest as well, with the new machine.
Anyone goin to the Banf Festival tonight?

  3. What’s happening Friday? I thought banff was tomorrow? Either way. I can’t do either. Oh woe is me.

Wild Plum is now taking reservations and that’s what I had in mind. There’s a big spot away from everything still available. BTW: is that what I fucking look like when I ride? No wonder everyone is always speeding on ahead…

  5. We’re out on the Banf. We were’nt thinking when we sched. our last night to build our sticks.

  6. Shit Yea! If you can Res. at Wild Plum do it. Get 2 sites. I’ll mail a check down to you for one and will figure out what everybody else owes when they show up. Not counting Bacon Strippers I know of at least 6 people staying with us.

  7. BTW, If your plan is to sandbag the GBG by blaring loud music and hooting it up the night before the race you’ll have to figure something else out. He wears ear plugs to bed. Oh, and he already uses horseradish for chamois butter too…

Whomever camps in Camp Bacon Strip must ride for Team Bacon Strip!!!

ps I’m in for floating cash on camping too, so fire away.

Thursday through Sunday? I was thinking of a few beers on Thursday night and then a couple pre-ride runs on Friday?

Okay, we have site 6B for Thurs-Sunday and 6A for Friday and Sat. I figured we didn’t need two sites for the first night but I’m sure we can find more room if necessary. There is very little extra parking ($5 vehicle); let’s make sure to bring as few vehicles as possible. Someone owes me $118.

Sandbag GBG? The shitty part is my race is on Sunday. I’m sure you XC guys will be hitting it hard on Sat. night.

  12. how about that “all mountain” category? think they’re going to be sticklers about it being only for pros? well hell, maybe i can fib a little, say i’m a sponsored rider (by Master Card) and make another fool of myself with a single speed all mountain attempt.

camping? i’ll probably camp up high this year, away from cars and peeps and noise. a few of the Nor*Nev’ers have a stylin’ spot towards the Buttes that’s Free.

  13. I’ll sponsor you.

What if they have those co-ed showers that Gris was telling us about…

  14. i know this is off topic – but are folks going to Banff tonight? pretty sweet film called “roam” that most folks here would enjoy.

  15. BREAKING NEWS! I just checked the Downieville web site and they are going to have Expert and Junior omniums this year. I’m gonna call the promoter and see if that extends to 1 speeds. If not, I may have to race straight the straight up Experts class on the Truth and school those geared guys.

The horse radish is losing it’s effect. The Habanero sauce we got from Gunnison last year seems to have the desired result.

Friday is an all day 1 spd. slug fest somewhere down by Nevada City that the Backcountry boys from Truckstop are doing. Anybody else want to go?

Shawn, or is it Sean? Thanks for getting the camp sites. Get my phone # from Mike H. and give me a call. I’ll get your address and get some scratch out to you.

Great campsites along the river just downstream of Downieville. In fact, if you have a kayak you may want to bring it along to play along the eddielines at these campsites…or you may just want to do the North Yuba – Goodyear bar run (http://www.cacreeks.com/yuba-nfg.htm).

These sites can be buggy in the summer, so be sure to bring a comrade with skin more tender than yours.

    Oh yeah, Japhyrider -

A chamois is pretty much a choad, except it’s not attached to you.

GBG sent you an info email.
    Thanks,

  22. Sean and I have decided to take either payment, or entertainment for the camping. You may perform for us (not on us) by the campfire under one (or more) or the following categories: comedy, drama, tragedy, feats-of-strength, potent-potables, or (preferably) Holy Crap.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  23. you mean a faux choad or a detached choad? oo, that’d hurt!

  24. yesterday was day 1 of race-specific conditioning for this summer’s unominium at the Downieville Classic. Stable at Speed, Nooner, Oso, Smokes, and I parked at the upstream end 1st Divide/Lavazzola Tr. intersection and span up the road to the take out for 2nd Divide. From there it was up, up, up to the top of the 2nd Divide/3rd Divide. That’s a pretty stiff climb on a single speed… Descending down 3rd Divide was real nice. there has been very little traffic out there thanks to snow up high. A quick jaunt back on the Lavazzola Trail brought us back to the vehicles in time to enjoy happy hour, get a pizza, and catch the 3rd night of the Banff Film Festival in Downieville. What a great venue for the BFF!
