Trail in!!

[?]

Last Thursday I met Dale and Randy, our Local Trail Gurus, along with some fellers from dhReno and Dick Benoit @ Evan’s Creek and we did some trail enhancements/maintenence.

We worked on the Miner’s trail (didn’t know it was called that) that runs high above the creek on the West side to the tailings pile below the N. We widened a washed out section and enhanced the long straight sidehill by adding some flow rises at a couple of spots.

Dale and Randy showed us a lot about trail building, and I hope to learn a lot more over the coming months. Because BIG EFFING NEWSSSSS!!!!!

We’re going to get a lot of work this summer! Looks like a new DH finish the the Entrail (”N” Trail), new Evan’s Keystone Connector, and improvements to the Keystone Trail.

Read the text of an email Dale and Randy sent out Today:

thanks to everyone who came out last Thursday evening (Steve, Jim, Eric,
Mike, Christy, Dick, Max). We covered some important trail building basics
and improved a couple of small sections on the old Miners Trail.

Steve Cleek did a nice follow up on the dhRENO web site, check it out at:

thanks Steve!

NOW FOR THE BREAKING NEWS:

Randy Meyer and I had an in the field meeting with the Washoe County Park
Planner and USFS Recreation Planner last Friday afternoon. Basically what
came of it is:

1) The county would like to tidy up the trail system in Rancho San Rafael
(to help with an improved east/west connection to the East Keystone Canyon
TH and to improve and designate the “N” trail downhill finish).

2) And the USFS verbally gave the ok to work on a new five mile section of
trail which lies mostly in the Keystone Canyon Non-Motorized zone.

So for this coming Thursday evening (April 12) we will NOT do any trail work
or maintenance, but get out the map and hike to the “N” trail to evaluate
what and where, improvements for trails within Rancho San Rafael.

We will then have to meet with the County planner and park ranger to go over
the proposed actions prior to any dirt moving. But all this could begin by
the beginning of May.

For the USFS work, we still need to finalize the paper work on a MOU and
volunteer agreement which will probably take a few weeks.

We will keep you posted as things develop.

Remember this week, NO actual trail work, but trail input ideas for Ranch
San Rafael. Hopefully the dhRENO guys and the UNR riders can make it.

Meet at the softball fields parking lot / Basque Monument TH at 5:45 pm this
Thursday April 12th.

Hope to see you there,

dhReno will be @ Sea Otter whooping it up, so TBS will have to help scope out the sickest drops, gnar-est hucks, and screaminest turns for the new Entrail. You can trust us!

    Dale, Randy, Dick, et al.

nice work repairing trail along the west bank of Evans. i ride that a few times a week to and fro work and lately, those few spots that’d become washed out were a little spicy! the talus piles and chicanes do well to scrub speed. thanks for keeping the trails in good shape and working the proper channels to see new ones established.
