P-Quad: Poedunks Present Peavine Pancakes!

It’s early and you’re grinding up Keystone Canyon on an empty stomach, fighting back the sleep as you negotiate rocky trail in a pre-caffinated stupor. You clean the rocks by the Corolla; you make the off-camber section without slipping down to the creek bed below. And when you crest the hill next to the radio towers, there they are: the Poedunks, slinging pancakes and frying bacon in the chilly morning mist. You throw down your bike, rip out your plate and fork and let into that stack like a vulture devouring a rotting armadillo…

On May 12th Keep Truckee Madows Beautiful (http://www.ktmb.org/) is organizing the 2nd Annual Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup. They say, “the cleanup will focus on the open spaces in our community.” And we know your favorite open space is all the killer trail on Peavine.

To motivate a rally of cyclists The Poedunks, a newly formed, IMBA affiliated trail stewardship club, (with teambaconstrip.com and dhreno.com) are going to haul a full camping kitchen up to the Radio Towers, through Keystone Canyon, by bike to cook you breakfast before you continue on your ride.

But this is no ordinary ride. With your trailer, panniers or backpack, you’ll hunt down and extract any bits of trash and junk you can find and deliver them to a waiting dumpster at the Keystone Trailhead. We will be using human power to clean up the Keystone-Evan’s Non-Motorized Zone and beyond; a mountain that holds our favorite backyard trails, sweet views and the essential Nevada paydirt.

Please join us for pancakes by 8:00! Bring a plate, cup and a fork for yourself, and we’ll hook you up with the rest. Let us know if you plan on coming out so we know how many pounds of bacon to bring. Those who commute to the trailhead by bike will also get chocolate chips in their pancakes… Or ride up the night before and bivy with us on the mountain. Don’t worry, it’s still too cold for the scorpions to be out yet (I think).
