Brown’s Creek Trail

This is news to me - in today’s Gazette Journal there’s a writeup on a trail that is allegedly nearing completion down in the Galena Creek Area. We checked a map, and Brown’s Creek is south of Mt. Rose Highway, and the only riding I’ve been aware of in that area is the lower Galena trail through McMansionville. I’m stoked to check this trail out - the group who’s been working on it, Galena Cycling Club, is getting together next month to finish the trail. Here’s a link to the article in today’s paper.

Colorado Weekend Pentathlon

Events are drink-ski-run-climb-drink.

 1. Drink: Cocktails at Martinis Enoteca in Lodo, Denver, brews at Wynkoop Brewery next door. BTW the good citizens of Denver elected the founder/owner of Wynkoop to the mayorship of the city. Now that’s my kind of politician.

2. Ski: Closing weekend at Mary Jane. Why do areas always close just when the skiing is getting really good? Parsenn Bowl was full of good snow and a bunch of smelly knee-droppers getting in one more hero run down the bowl and through the trees. By tradition, the final run of the year is made topless. To the amazement of all…nobody has brought a camera to record the event for posterity. Or posterior. Or whatever.

3. Run: Horsetooth Half-Marathon, Fort Collins. Naturally…the previous event takes a toll on the glycogen content of one’s legs. This is compensated by the prospect of free beer at the finish provided by New Belgium. Logically, the fastest finishers have the shortest wait for both beer and portapotties. A time of 1:30:50 does not succeed in turning the heads of any of the local hottiez hanging around the finish, but it does get me ahead of the crowd in the beer line.

4. Climb: The Palace, Cache la Poudre Canyon. Is it possible to lead 5.10 after having just run, fast, for 13 miles? Yes. Is it a good idea? Not particularly. Fortunately it’s all on bolts. Ufff…grrrg…whff…mmmf…hggg…clip…whekk…comeonpullitpullit…clip… aaagg…okwatchme…reach…ohshithatsasloper!!…pull…step…rrrgg…clip… eeeeeeyaaahhh.!

5. Drink: Dry Bombay martini, Blue Paddle, on the porch, on the first porch-worthy day of the spring. Listen to the neighbors discuss their Sunday. “Do anything fun this weekend?” “Yah, I mowed the lawn for the first time.” Bwa-ha-ha-ha.

BBQ

Yo,
patio
SMcG is hitting town Friday afternoon. I promised him a BBQ. I offer up my house and humble back yard. I’ll hook up some Meatage, some beerage and a heap of paper plates in something festive like Rainbow Bright’s special birthday motif. Let’s make it a pot luck though, cause I can’t handle that kind of planning. Someone make some Potato Salad. Someone make some coleslaw for those wierdos who like that crap. Someone bring some wieners, some wine, some watermelon, you know the works. If I can get it together to buy a new grill then maybe we can actually cook something. Otherwise, well, I guess we’ll figure something out.

Peace,

hourglass
That’s right mofo. CaptRedBeard and I are gonna go skiing! Isn’t that weird!!!

Maybe a nice loop on BrokenGlass, hourGlass, Tamarack. Maybe more than one. Tellyoufuckingwhat, this will probably my last ski trip of the season so I want to make the most of it.

I’d be interested in hearing some info/opinions on the best spot and time to go, since I’m so out of it.

Join us or Die!!!

Trail in!!

Last Thursday I met Dale and Randy, our Local Trail Gurus, along with some fellers from dhReno and Dick Benoit @ Evan’s Creek and we did some trail enhancements/maintenence.
dale
We worked on the Miner’s trail (didn’t know it was called that) that runs high above the creek on the West side to the tailings pile below the N. We widened a washed out section and enhanced the long straight sidehill by adding some flow rises at a couple of spots.

Dale and Randy showed us a lot about trail building, and I hope to learn a lot more over the coming months. Because BIG EFFING NEWSSSSS!!!!! Continue reading ‘Trail in!!’
