I did go on a climbing roadtrip once with a group that called themselves Team Hideous…the chief agitator of TH was fond of cooking while wearing only an apron or the aforementioned chaps. He frequently dropped his cooking hardware. He usually augmented his breakfast diet with straight bourbon. He was also a strange dude.

aren’t all chaps assless? otherwise they’d be pants, right? assless pants – now that sounds like Mad Max’s nemesis, Lord Humungus!!!
All chaps are CROTCHLESS. Thus allowing you to pee freely (among other things) but still providing abrasion control on the assal region while riding a horse, and for some reason, a shartly chodidson scrotercycle.
The assless version thereof was invented in the seventies as a way to get the rough cowboy look without taking away from the acutely sculpted posterior, which was the style at the time, along with hair gel and bushy mustaches, among other things.
When Cpt. RedBeard get’s back he might be interested in a version with ONLY the crotch to help with his “freezing problem.”

i thought they had more to do with keeping brush from ripping trowsers apart while riding on the open range than padding one’s sit bones. what do i know, i’ve never done much ranchin’ or pretended to be a cowboy.
