Wakey wakey, cakes ‘n’ bakey!

The Bacon Strip Presents: PeaCakes annual Bike to Work Day Mountainside Pancake Party. Bike To Work Day, Friday May, 18 2007, Reno, NV,

Mike @ dawn
we go up!

One year ago a man had a vision: To put his three loves together, early morning mountain biking, wearing tight pants, and pancake eating. For those us brave enough to follow him into the wild it was truly inspiring. But for him, hauling a stove, camp gear, water, and food by XtraCycle was brutal.

Mr. Butterworth and the love

This year he pulled the strings again, recruited us to help carry the load. Still, to make his morning burden easier he hauled the food and stove up the two nights before. The rest of us waited in quiet anticipation, and prepared our own contributions as necessary

I rose @ 4 AM, donned my cycling gear, had a bowl of CrunchoBerryMedly, and hit the road.

Met LocalCrew @ Keystone TH @ 5:00 and proceeded up the mountain past Goddess of Peavine Point (who smiled her sweet mapley smile upon us)…

…to the top of The Bacon Strip and up to the main Peavine road.

Found JR and Taldor at the designated place, just off the road by the first set of Microwave Dishes below the summit. McD was still in bed and Taldor was wearing his pants. We didn’t ask questions, just jumped into the cooking.

And my god was that some cooking! Here are the highlights.

Longhammer Batter

More bacon that you could swing a dead cat at. “What harm is there in an 8th piece of bacon?” -M.C.

I definately detect a pork product of some kind.

mmmmmm

JR brought STRAWBERRIES!!!!

After a quick roll down The Bacon Strip, we split up and rode to work. Nothing special about that, so we didn’t take any pics.

Thanks guys for making a nice morning and continuing a fine tradition!

Thanks for the post, props, and pics, Wolfy. I’m glad you pointed out that we found the gents together under the pine tree-McD lying there in his fast-wicking boxers (the ones with the special strip-repellant inner coating) and Taldor wearing McD’s pants. WTF? was my first thought, followed quickly by WWJD? All I know is “Bacon” is part of the answer.

BUT! We can’t miss out on a critical learning opportunity, namely this: Ever suffer from shitty pancakes from left-over or partially hydrated flapjack batter? Well, fear not, and suffer no more, thanks to the magical power of longhammer. Even if your pancake mix looks like a pile of bear scat, Longhammer will bring it back. Fluffy, bacon-impregnated cakes were ours to enjoy thanks to the restorative properties of said nectar.

if you show up at 0600 on the mountain in a pair of surf trunks in chilly dawn temps, i’ll offer in the most down home baconstrip sort of fashion my B.D.U.’s to keep you warm till the sunrise and pancake cookin’ griddle arrives…

gud times, amigos. what’s next, GIRO de CARSON?! say, mid July or early August? sounds like a perfect acid test for the VT125. 2 days, 150 miles of dirt, 60% trail, 100% BS!

thanks for trekkin’ that kitchen up there, M.C. how do i get your cook pot back to you?

First of all: Wolfy, you’re a lyrical gangstah. Straight up. That’s some dope shit. Thanks to you, I’ve got Sir Mix A Lot jammed in my head.

#2) McD, you are a truly generous soul. I would slip into your pants with honor .. . wait, that sounds sorta weird . . . Uh, yeah, cook pot. How ’bout that cook pot. I can come pick it up, or arrange a post ride swap or something . .. What’s going on with this evening? Beers at Great Basin? Could swap there.

Might stop by the GB, but I want to make the Reno Bike Project Meeting @ Silver Peak @ 8:30. Perhaps Beers on the patio @ SP just before the RBP meeting?

Who’s Sir Mixalot? I thought that was a Johnathan Colton song?

    What’s that? Wake-n-bake?

Wolfy it’s a good thing you don’t have to make your living rappin’…

    I’m rather ashamed I didn’t think of Wake-N-Bacon.

    Next year!
