Yesterday Nooner, Bustigator, The Restless Ape, Aron, Juni and I found a new trail out in Sparks thanks to a tip from my buddy Martin. It was RAD!
It starts off a dirt road behind the new softball fields near Red Cock Gold Course. Follow the pink BLM access signs for now. It starts with a cool singletrack, then climbs about 900 feet over really short distance. It’s a lung buster for sure but most of the switchbacks are really well built and fully ridable.
We ran into one of the builders @ the top. Thanks man!!!
The trail loops around from the top there by the chicken sign. Suggest going right for the loop. There is some seriously technical stuff on the back side. Steep, loose, tight, rocky and super fun! About 10 miles all together.
There was some fall-line trail on the back side and some in-sloped sections with no drainage, but it looks like these guys are out there working fairly frequently and are on top of it. Great trail. Lots of potential. I’d like to see it go all the way south to I-80…
Also: check out all the new trail work being done over on Peavine!!!

Oh man that was a rockin’ ride. And when I say rockin’ I mean rocky. Jokin aside, it was a radical day.
I think out of everyone there, Juni had the best lines. Never seen a mutt rail switchback/burms like that, not even Smokey. She wasn’t even cuttin corners. Well, at least not to many. You should make her tail into a lil’ pig tail… tight!
Now I know who that restless gorilla is… cool dude and fun to ride with!
Nice to finally shred trail with you wolfman and you too bustigator.
That dude who built part of the trail was complaining of bronchitis… maybe it was the climb, cause I too felt like I had bronchitis, bruised ribs and a tender diaphragm after that 2:1 climb… idiot!
Peace out hombres
Juni kicked ass! Maybe she can school my dogs a thing or two. Good to get out with you cats on fine December day! Also bueno to meet ya’all and finally ride, not race with the fellow TBSers. 2 fingers at ya Wolfy! Don’t forget about Old Pueblo since I am too lame to finger out how to post…maybe it’s the plexiglass belly?
Bustigator, did you guys already pay for the race? If so, how many pesos do I owe?
Had so much fun at Cool with you cats, can’t wait for Old Pueblo. Let’s ride soon!
The Old Pueblo? We’re in. Team Zissous presented by the Nacirema Drinking Society and Birthday Challenge.com will be there in force. Expect lots of barley sodas and some fine cocktails, some nice singlespeeds and a very good vibe. Can’t wait.
Oh, and that trail in Sparks looks cool. I can’t wait to get back that way and do more riding.

Looking forward to meeting, riding onespeeds and drinking barley pops with you Reedster
I talked the RTC into starting up a Bicycle Advisory Committee. We are working on the Transportation Plan. This would be for non-recreational (ie city street) bicycle planning. Please get the word out, people can email me and I will send them the application. Applications are due December 19th.

Thanks Dave!
There’s a copy of the application HERE. http://blog.renobikeproject.com/?p=60

Tried the new trail out yesterday PM. Conditions went from mud to snow to more mud and finally 4 inches of consistent snow in a shady north running draw sent me back to the truck. Looks like a good early/late season training option and the views were really cool–too bad it’s in Sparks.
Be easy on me out here DH’er!
