Keystone Canyon trailhead departure at 0730 or 0800, this time we had a “harmonic convergence” of just 3 single speeds. Climbing the local hill (if you call Peavine a hill, it’s about a 4,000′ climb from the house to the summits), a nice 2 hour+ effort from the house.

winds were calm, air was cool, sun was warm - amazingly nice for the top of Peavine in April. i’ve been freezin ass cold up there in midsummer!

we spent a few minutes talkin trash and enjoying views from the Sierra Crest way into the Basin & Range. Huck Tater discussing the merits of “wilderness” trails near the front range… i just ate my PBnJ.

descending 2-track and singletrack that 4,000′ was fast and a bit more exciting than the main service.

throw in a few short climbs just for giggles…

and what would a nice ride be w/o a mechanical? Matt’s here putting his pedal back onto the pedal spindle… good thing that didn’t come off about a 1/4 mile sooner!

and what’s better way to add to a ride than finding something you’ve never ridden? parting shot -

may try to do this again real soon, like Saturday or Sunday morning. any takers? thank all that’s good in the world that it’s Friday, and we have sooo much vertical relief to play with. now it’s almost time to ride some hand made trail leading home and have a home made beer.

now isn’t that special!

Sounds like a good ride and will probably be just as good when you do it again soon. I miss those rides on Peavine. I hardly touched any other riding in the area, but I rode Peavine plenty. It would be fun to get up there again sometime.
Thanks for sharing.

Really cool story as always. You might wanna give aaron a call or I’ll have him call you guys for saturday or sun. I might do something short with him tomorrow, but if ya’lls go sunday then let him know and/or I’ll tell him cause he wants to do something hard on sunday. I’d go, but I did a 5 1/2 hr ride today in Nevada City with Stubbie and Pete… I felt surprisingly good for just doing the 420 ride five days ago. Been doing some road rides to induce a lil speedy recovery and I think it paid off. However, my super rad technical skills suffered a bit today. All in all, it was definitely a Gregg Stone ride. Long and Hard, K, that sounds gay, but it was, a long and hard bike ride, that is… and not that there is anything wrong with that… well, ya’lls know what I’m saying!!!
Anyway, time for me to chill and focus on work training for the week to come… very physical and demanding, so I think it’ll be a good change of pace.
Sorry I didn’t post anything about the fo’ twenty ride. Just know it was fun fun fun and it kicked my ass in more ways than one… my number was up and it got me good, more than I thought. I really hope you can make it next year J.R. along with your better 15/16 (not half), Miss SAS.
Oh yeah, how’s are ring leader doing? The Wolfinator! Are you gonna be able to make it to Cool for a lil Bacon Support. I hope so, It’ll be nice to have someone there in the weee hrs of the morning telling me to soldier on or do it in the name of bacon.
I hope you’re doing well Mike, but I’ve neglected my booze long enough so peace out bitches and let’s keep up the comms leading up to the race.

was a great ride. the weather and view were lovely. i went back up to the towers last week one day (much colder and windier) and had the great experience of getting all the way up only to find that i had left leg warmers, extra gloves and decent wind jacket at home. i was so sweaty that when i started down (in shorts, no thick gloves and thin ass wind jacket) i got an ice cream headache. but none of the joy of the ice cream part….
4-20 ride rocked. i can’t wait to get back over to those trails soon!!
Sweet. Saw those pics in JR’s SMugmug feed. I’m selling bike parts and ski boots and planning home construction today. Yay. Had planned to do a bunch of laps on peavine as a warmup for the Cream Puff. The Bike Art show kicked my ass last night.

ps
You guys need to start putting some of that beer in bottles. That’s the whole point of Home Brew is letting your friends take some home!
-M
Wolfy, while agree with you about bottling and sharing, the other point of home brew is to have your friends drop by for a visit and help you drain the keg… Perhaps you and Smella can come for a visit some time soon. And with a bum knee, I think you’d be a perfect candidate for brewing up the next batch - crutch in one hand and stir stick in the other.
Looks like a lovely ride on Peavine and 420 sounded awesome. Next year I’ll plan on it.
SAS
Wolfy, how exactly does one get one’s ass kicked by an art show?!? And, you must have gotten there late. I got there when it opened, grabbed a beer, bought the best piece in the show and rode home. And that was after 4 hours on the road bike getting dragged around by my Cool teammates. Let’s see we were supposed to tell you that it was really windy, the roads were rough and the drivers were all assholes, so you didn’t miss anything. Couple of hours on the mtb today rounded the weekend out nicely. Cheers.
We were late…
standing on one leg is hard on the hip. Almost popped a pill this AM, but I choose beer over Vicodin.
You bought the Minotaur? Was there something cooler?
-M
Dude, if you can stay of the Vicodin, do it… doesn’t really do much but fuck up your gutts and it’s really shitty when you run out. Ask for a PX of ibuprofrin, not near as rough on you, and it’s so much better than Vicodin! Whatever.
Oh yeah, Wolfy, close your eyes and don’t read… I found some bitchin single track from glenshire to Martis creek lake Dam. It’s gonna be my rad trail ride to and from work this summer.
Back to work tomorrow for a week of training, see ya’lls in Cool!

So let me get this straight, Wolfy - you blew out your knee taking pictures, then got your ass handed to you by an art show? All in one week? Have you not been eating your bacon?
looks like he’s on a slippery slope. we might have to plan an intervention.
