Suffer Solstice Reconnaissance

[?]

mud season

i spent last Saturday on reconnaissance, hoping to ride or at least confirm location and access to bits of trail that will provide a “western passage” around Desolation Wilderness.  pretty much it was a day spent getting snuffed by 0-2 meters of snow over trails and access roads, but i did find one of the trailheads i was looking for and another dirt road that should lead from a connecting trail down to US50. along the way i carried and rode over a bunch of snow, passed 3 or 4 stuck vehicles and frustrated folks digging with pieces of firewood, i took a few wrong turns and found myself looking down a snow slope and across Strawberry Ck to the correct route on the other side of the drainage, then carrying my bike down the slope, tripoding across boulders in the rising waters and bushwacking up to the intended route, and finally riding up that till it was too snowed in. oh well, not much mileage, but lots of fun route finding. hope it pays off later this summer.  say, the weekend of June 14th?

On the other hand, there may still be toooo much snow in the high country.

Sounds fun! My suffer threshold is going to a be tad low for a while.

Pyrofloptic gave me a couple pairs of flat pedals to kick around on. Might go spin the Blackrock with Smella and the Bean Sunday if it isn’t too hot.
