one thing about late spring skiing on corn snow is that it is over by noon. that leaves a lot of daylight to busy one self until the next sunrise…

load, reload…
aside from potato gun fun, regular runs were made to the Ruby Mtn Brewery just down the road. we got a tour from Steve the owner/brewmaster/rancher. pretty darn cool to have that operation in an out building, Nevada’s High Country behind that, and a laid back rural lifestyle. i asked him if he’d take on an apprentice. “Sure, you can learn all about bottling!” mostly we just practiced opening the bottles - we burned through a case and a half of lager and a case and a half of porter, and that was after killing the 5 gallon keg from Sun Valley Brewery.

and then there was the skiing, which involved a modest amount of walking to reach snowline.

a few drifts keep the OHV out

Weeks Canyon

…and, a parting shot -

load, reload. sell, resell.
were you guys aiming the potato gun at Marlon Brando in that picture? The target looks a lot like the godfather.
Whoa - that looks like some seriously fun terrain. Did you guys make it up into the chutes behind that nice looking outcrop?
This looks like a fine weekend…fresh beer to offset the stale corn, great terrain. Maybe we can get Calvin, Grommet & Deuce out there for next springs corn harvest. Course…we’ll need some sidecars to haul gear, but we’ve got a year to solve that one.
the Godfather - Vinni, or something, right? funny thing was, no one got a direct hit. funnier than that was no matter where we were in camp, wind seemed to blow it around so he was watching us. come to think of it, almost everything was pretty darn funny.
the terrain was fantastic. we stuck to mellower stuff, though you can go as committing as you want up there. i’d love to get back again next spring, introduce the yearlings to backcountry beer gardens.
Not sure if the pics are of a potato cannon or a “smoking device”???
Agreed I think I carried something like that in my backpack when i followed the Dead around the west coast…
the only thing burning in those spudguns was carburetor cleaner (ether!!!), though i’m sure they may have been interested in the novel application you’re suggesting. some of the guys did partake in cigars, but not while loading the guns.
SICK!!!
Skiing. wow. Sounds fun. Love to try that again some day.
