If you’re going to be in the Cascade Cream Puff Zone this weekend look me up. TBS Rider TheRestlessApe dislocated his shoulder and can’t ride. This is after I hurt my knee and couldn’t ride. So post a comment if you are tall skinny and look like an ape and want to try to take his spot!

Sizzling hot bacon for June 5th through June 20th:
- Washoe RTC Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee - An interesting discussion on some issues faced by the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
- MIGHTY MOBILE: Golden Tickets !!!!! - Bikes!! Ridin’ em, fixin’ em, taking about em’ & pictures of em’. If you’re looking for yet another “kook-a-lator” talking about the seemingly always bizzare underworld of cycling, look no further…. you’ve arrived.
- NYC Mayor: I’d Ban Bikes on Subways | Autopia from Wired.com - Wow! Reno is SOOO far beyond New York City with respect to bike transportation. We have RTC busses with THREE bike racks!
- Pedal Powered Four Wheel Drive SUV Invented in Germany : TreeHugger - this might be a fun way to get back into 4×4ing. I’ll wait untill Rocky Mounts makes a roof rack for them.

snow lion
Indian Peaks Wilderness, CO 6.7.08. Snow Lion is the couloir just right of center. Ascent is just to the right of the cornice on very nice, steep (50 deg) snow.
Conditions were pretty good until we got high up when it was warm enough to get things on the mushy side. Small pieces of the cornice were crumbling off as I finished; it was a little disconcerting to see them tumble harmlessly by twenty feet away.
The dog visible in the picture was the trip leader. He was a mostly-black lab mutt who effortlessly climbed 45-degree snow (D6 rating) and and pretty much completed the perfect dog-day by chasing a ptarmigan and rolling in a recently melted-out, rotting and very putrid deer carcass. It doesn’t get any better than that!
Oh, except for the fact that the pub in Nederland had Avery Maharajah (tripple IPA) on tap. Now THAT is an exclamation point!

Sorry to be posting a bummer, but here’s what happened and what to look out for. This evening at 5:30 pm, southbound on Lakeside Dr. just north of Lone Tree I was passed by a Silver Toyota SUV, I think it was a Highlander, NV plate 834 VEH, I think 3 occupants, young, white, probably stupid. Passenger threw a nearly full tall can of a drink at me. He threw it hard and fast and it hit the grass on the side of the road with a gut-wrenchingly strong thud. Went by my head so close I felt the wind from it, but a clean miss. Fortunately for me, these assholes probably don’t know enough about the laws of physics to accurately throw anything but it did shake me up a bit. I immediately called it in, issued a complaint, will go in tomorrow and sign said complaint, but don’t expect a whole lot to happen. If you happen to see said SUV, last seen heading west-bound on Lone Tree from Lakeside, let me know. Stay safe, it’s a friggin’ zoo out there.
I don’t want to knock america’s adventure place (even if they do have a slick new website) but Afganistan is where it’s at for extreme mountain biking!
Since the invention of the motion picture camera, when man finally had the opportunity to put the works of Mellville and Bradbury in motion, the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains have been the set for hundreds of movies and TV shows. The most awesome of which have been the SciFi classics cause we all know we feel like we’re on another world in places like the Alabama Hills, the Buttermilks or rolling down the surreal depths of Saline Valley.
From Tom Mix, Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry and the Lone Ranger to Jean Luc Picard and now Tony Stark in the new movie Iron Man, It’s not just a place for fulfilling your own outdoor hardman fantasies, though it does pretty damn well with those. This is not a review of Iron Man, except to say I liked it (read: was entertained) but I always love to see the East Side on film!
Ok, so when I was in the Theater I was POSITIVE that Tony Stark got Blowed up on Buttermilk Road right near the Tungsten Hills, but looking back @ the trailer I’m not so sure. My Mom said that a few months back they were @ the Alabama Hills and there was some filming going on. But still, most Jeep commercials are filmed @ the Buttermilks… Check out the opening sequence in this trailer for Iron Man, where somewhere on the East Side is standing in for the Afgani mountains:

Oh, we roasted the hell out of some schmoes…
And here’s the bike I helped my sister RozyT build with parts from Gris and Tongaroo!

We camped @ Y Boulder for the first time in YEARS! It was RAD.
Here’s ths whole video:
