————-what really happened —————
one thing about late spring skiing on corn snow is that it is over by noon, leaving quite a bit of daylight in which to busy one’s self…

load, reload…
aside from potato gun fun, regular runs were made to the Ruby Mtn Brewery just down the road. we got a tour from Steve the owner/brewmaster/rancher. pretty darn cool to have that operation in an out building, Nevada’s High Country behind that, and a laid back rural lifestyle. i asked him if he’d take on an apprentice. “Sure, you can learn all about bottling!” mostly we just practiced opening the bottles - we burned through a case and a half of lager and a case and a half of porter, and that was after killing the 5 gallon keg from Sun Valley Brewery.

and then there was the skiing, which involved a modest amount of walking to reach snowline.

a few drifts keep the OHV out

Weeks Canyon

Nice pics!!!
Was just up @ North Lake near Bishop and there’s some skiable lines with s bit o bootpacking.
D.LaP was talking yesterday about wanting to road trip up to Lassen or Shasta in a few for some shots. Alas, I think I’m going to stay off skis for another few months…

never skied on Lassen or Shasta. sounds like it might be fun! i’m booked up through June 20 though, and by then, it’ll be grommet time! sooooo, i might not make it this year.
i got play around on both earlier this spring, but did not top out on either. Shasta got raked this winter by high winds and so a lot of the high elevation lines are not as great as they have been in years past. also, the road around to the northside had not been plowed the final 9 miles as of last week.
lassen had a ton of snow as of mid may and the road is fully plowed now. it is a leisurely three hours from town and a whole lot of fun. there’s an easy way to rig a shuttle from the peak, i’m told, if you have two cars. i would also suggest hot springs and a stop at pangea in quincy for post ski fish tacos and beers.
