what’s better than bumbling across a bunch of granite boulder rockstacles?

slabstacle

finding big areas of granite slabstacles for complete enjoyment and freedom of route finding

what beats the hell out of climbing service roads littered with rolling baby heads and moon dust at the hottest time of the day?

Judah

Rippin’ long swoopy fun trail through fern groves, under big trees, and across bridges. i suspect the trails were pretty much empty b/c lots of people aren’t interested in the putting in the time to get to the top of the hill

rippin

what could possibly be better than looking across the high country and picking out the peaks you’re about to spend your day riding around…

started waywayway over there

looking back at the peaks you crossed earlier in the day and all the fun you’ve had along the way

what could be more refreshing than scoring an ice lemonade after finishing 7ish hours of riding?

lemonade

well, we had another 10 miles of our ride to do to find out…

almost done

beer on the beach and cold lake to swim in.

yup, that might’ve bested the lemonade

thanks again Nate and Jan (sp?). good ride!

ps- all pics in todays post were Nate’s taking

Was that the Donner Rim Trail? Sounds fun!! Except for the babyhead fire road. That sounds sucky.

gray creek drainage is worth explorin more.

    i spent 3hrs 10min and 59sec drivin home and rode my bicycle for 4hrs 10min and 59sec.

the only mt. baldy i know of is near Santa Fe, NM - ahhh, the Windsor Trail, something like 12 to 20 creek crossings! (my memory fails me. it’s been a while)

i have history in the Grey Ck drainage. take a look at Topo’s hi-res maps of the N-fork of Grey’s to the West Fork of Grey’s. pretty much runs the Mt. Rose Wilderness boundary (depending on which map you look at) and shows “trail” connecting between the 2 w/ access to Juniper Ridge and Martis Pk area. let’s just say i had an adventure. it took me about 8 hours to carry my loaded touring mtb down that mother scratcher! on more than one occasion i saw something that looked like people had used the area before ie- old old rusty dutch oven, coffee pot, ancient trail tread falling to mass wasting. the rest of the time i was carrying a mtb with loaded touring panniers (on the bike or 1 at a time through Grey’s Ck) and constantly calling out, “hey bear, just me, too skinny to eat Japhy, i’ll be on my way.”

so if there is something fun to ride i’m all down with it. just make sure the turistas approach from the north fork of Grey’s Ck. should be a thin crowd from there on!

good hearing from you Nooner. let’s go shred!

it’s on the tahoe rim trail. between martis pk and i believe rifle pk. we’ve rallied it before… next to the boundary of the mt rose wilderness.

i’m off this comin tues through sun.
