Dry Gulch, near Loveland Pass, CO, last weekend. After last week’s post, I felt it only fair to post something that is not completely tasteless.

Unprecedented heat wave here–temperatures well above freezing even in the high country. So we had to skin up an extra ten minutes or so to some northeast-facing trees which provided great skiing in near-tropical temperatures.uptrack_dry_gulchNo wind either, for once. From nearest to camera, that’s Harshfield, his friend Steve from Boulder, and Greg’s wife Lara. It was a great day in a beautiful place and a fine way to spend W’s LAST friggin’ full day in office.

Looks lovely. Is Dry Gulch anwhere near Butler Gulch? I’ve skied up that way a bunch a long time ago.

From southwest to northeast, it’s Loveland Pass, I-70 tunnel, Dry Gulch, Herman Gulch, Butler Gulch, Jones Pass and Berthoud Pass, all along the Continental Divide. Dry Gulch has the best terrain and best snow of anywhere in the Front Range that I’ve skied. A lot of people say Herman is even better, but right now that place looks like it would come down on your head!
