Who’s up for it? Great Tahoe Flume Race.

Great Tahoe Flume Race Course Description
“Starting near Spooner Lake at an elevation of 7000’, the course starts up a 4 mile, 1100’ climb to the top of North Canyon. A short descent takes the riders around Marlette Lake and onto the Marlette Flume Trail. Along the Flume Trail there is a mandatory dismount at the rockslide. Once off the Flume Trail, a short but steep climb takes riders over Tunnel Creek Road where a sandy downhill drops riders onto the Red House Flume. Passing the historic Red House, riders begin the brutal climb up Sunflower Hill to 8300’, the highest elevation on the course. A quick descent back to Marlette Lake where the final climb takes you to the finish at the top (saddle) of North Canyon Road. The course is 18 miles with 3100’ of climbing. After the finish, it is a 4 mile downhill ride back to the start. It is important that riders control their speed and yield to other trail users through this section.”

Seems like a great course. I might do it. Though it is probably too much for me to singlespeed, unless i cowboy up.

  1. I’ve done North Canyon on the single speed. Wasn’t too bad until the end, but that section is short. Sunflower hill sounds like a long steep hill for the single speed though. I can see wanting the granny for that! Sounds like a good course though.

I’m told they’re working on a new singletrack that will connect Hobart to to the saddle above Marlette…bypassing Sunflower Hill with a friendlier grade!

Looks like an awesome event. Too bad I won’t be around. I’ll be riding plenty that day, just in Costa Rica! Preview rides for La Ruta.

Some info from one of the event organizers:

“Access to the course opposite the direction of race travel will be restricted in some sections for the safety of participants and trail users. It will be as brief as possible and alternate routes will be posted. The TRT will remain open the entire time. There will be Rangers and Bike Patrol personnel throughout the course.

As far as the date- we picked the date in February when the only thing on the calendar at that time was the Folsom Cyclocross. So you are correct it’s not ideal to have so many events on one weekend, but since we are limited to 200 participants to begin with, hopefully it will not be as much as an impact for us.

The race flier is posted on the Reno Wheelmen website at http://www.renowheelmen.org/race/rac…hoe-flume-race
If you have any other questions that the flier doesn’t answer, feel free to e-mail me at mtb10@renowheelmen.org.”
