fun weekend!

Nick, rallying the North Yuba!

Margaret, getting down!

Shredder, doing what she does best, shredding!

This past Friday I woke up got my camping shit together, packed up Smokey, loaded the Santa Cruz Full Suspension and headed for Downieville, California.  My destination and plan was to get the Lavazzola spot on the creek.  Whatta you know?  Abracadabra, I scored the the Mcdeez, Nick, Margaret, myself and the mutts a killer spot, that last year when we stayed there we got the “Evil Eye” from some not so friendly campereroos! Anyway, after piching my tent… wha… Smokey and I set out on the hour and a half loop that the Mcdeez, Oso, myself and Smokey did last year during the Banff weekend.  Departed Lavazzola and road along the creek with my faithful companion in tow, actually in lead!  Came out on the fireroad by the 1st Divide, headed up the road and jumped on the 2nd Divide trail.  Pretty fun riding, some debris on the trail, but not too much to take away the fun factor that Smokey and I were partaking in.  We came upon some snow patches, lil’ hika-biking, back on the bike, more snow, more hika-biking, and then fuck, next thing I knew, I was on my feet pushing my bike for what seemed like forever.  Got to the point where I made sure I had my lighter and started looking for wood to burn as I was pushing.  I didn’t completely give up, just looking and making sure I had options… survival instinct I guess… “my mind playing tricks on me!”  Happy I had my ipod, not so happy with Smokey taking off for 20 to 30 minutes after a deer or some other critter/bear/mountain lion.  I must have been moving to slow for him.  Well, after about an hour maybe closer to two of loosing the trail, finding it, frozen feet, and the fear that I was gonna be on the news, I found the last climb, that I couldn’t even ride, that brings you up to the 2nd and 3rd Divide intersection.  From there another short climb to the always fun as hell 3rd Divide downhill portion… sweet… Shit, I wasn’t scared, I swear I wasn’t, seriously!  Just me and my overheating boy tearing up the 3rd Divide back to camp… 3 ½ to 4 hours.  Had a beer, gave the mutt some food with a splash of brown ale and water, changed cloths and met the McDeeez, who were on the McD Factor, at the Banff Film Show. Not much of a weekend, unless you consider shredding trail, camping in Downieville, drinking beer, watching cool films, hanging with good friends and drinking more beer, fun!

Much more to report, but you should have gone if you wanted to know… dummies!

signal pk!!!

That’s Stubbie, the smoothest biker you’ll meet, badass alpine shredder, in the resort and B/C and a beer drinking extraordinaire!!!

So I took a much needed break from the bike, in particular, the 1speed!  Last night my buddy Greg (Stubby) called and told me to meet him at Aarons in the A.M.  From there we headed west on I-80 to Cisco Grove, parked, and did the giant slog up to Signal Pk  We thought we were going to ski the north shot on the backside, but noticed if we did another short traverse, we could scrounge a lil more vert out of it.  So of course, we said, let’s do it, and screw the skins let’s just boot pack up this bitch!  By the time we got to the top it was a freaking blizzard out!  Which was off and on… bluebird, blizzard, bluebird, blizzard…We waited for Mr. Sunshine and sure enough he came.  We ended up skiing down an east face that was one of the sickest “Warren Miller Style” screw that, “Powder Whore Style” lines that I skied this year.  Well, maybe not that big, those guys go big!  Nonetheless, it was fanfuckintabulous anyway!  Smokey and Salomon’s lines were pretty sick too.  Not bad for a few mutts and some old dogs!  Ha!  We dropped it like it’s hot, dropped it like it’s hot!  So what we skied down we had to skin up, another freaking slog fest!  When we got to the top we finished off our vittles and waited out the blizzard again… and guess who decided to show his bright face?  That’s right, Mr. Sunshine… so we strapped our shit up nice and tight and skied another sick line down the south face of Signal Pk and took the long semi-downhill traverse back to the car… this was were Smokey and Salomon were really able to show off the speed and not so graceful agility… I think they got broke the fuck off, well, so did Greg and Aaron and I!!!It was a six hour day and we weren’t lolly-gagging around either.  Maybe a lil, like pals do I guess!  Sorry Wolfy, no pictures, to busy skiing!  Sorry for not calling everyone else either, it was a last minute thing and we left early.   Later dudes and chicks, Nooner

Day 1 in the B/C 4 Me!!!

This past Saturday Smokey and I meet up with Juni, Wolfy, Dave, Dave and Ray for a lil’ backcountry in the Mount Rose  area.

It was a beautiful sunny day, didn’t really know what to expect considering the not so considerate SNOW GODS lately!  Actually I was kinda expecting crappy conditions with crappy conditions…. what we had in place was Sick mofoin powder with crappy conditions!

We pondered a bit below hourglass on what to ski.  Wolfman and myself noticed some fellers skiing our lines climbers right (more appropriately, skiers left) of hourglass… pow lines!  Needless to say, the two Mikes, the two Daves, Ray, Juni and the subtly cracking Smokey headed that way and we’s all had sick lines with the occasional rock jib!

On our way back up to ski the last pitch of the day we ran into your friendly neighborhood tattooed man.  Around that point I believe we lost a Dave and Ray, but added one of our TBS mates and one of my 24 hour mates.

Short story short… Wolfy, Dave, myself, Juni and my BONKING WOLFDOG headed back to the realities (holidays) of the world!  Huck Tatar soldiered on!

Very few pictures that day… low battery!

So here it is!

Hey peeps, besides the test drivin in front of the McDs place, yesterday and 2day were the real test drives. Yesterday was a cool spin in the peavine area with an awesome friend. She had the patience of Yoda himself with all the tweakin that was demanded of me. Axle displacement was the big problem. Despite everyones lake of ability to trust my wrenchin skills and ability to learn on the fly…I can figure shit out. My other problem was dialin in the fork by de Italianos and de compression y rebound required from my hips down dat I haven’t had to rely on in about 4 fuckin years…feels good to be alive again.

Today, I didn’t call anyone cause I didn’t want to slow anyone down and I wanted to ride the 2 to 1 at my pace…had to stop twice for axle adjustments to stop the annoyin rotor to caliper rub…all good now!

It was the same ride that I did with Marcus and da Geek, except this time I started on Russle road which adds about 7 miles.

Towards the end of the ride I was followed by some Vultures! Don’t know if they smeeled DEATH on me or if they simply recognized one of their own hooverin ground level!

2morrow, I’m meetin some homies at the Backcountry in Truckee so we can saddle up and rally in reno of all fuckin places…please melt snow! Rim jobs are on the agenda!

Trailblazers in Auburn!

Saturday mornin started with egg and cheese b-burritos.  I was a few items short of the killer-burritto fit for champions…made my way over to Joe’s Coffee in Truckee, they make a good power beverage.  Nothing of a lesser potency would be tolerated for a day of ridin with the Griss and Japhy (the Rough) Rider.  We met up at the Safeway parkin lot (on McD time of course) and conserved pollution outputs with the ol’ carpool trick.  Made it to the confluence in Auburn without any piss or shit stops.  Fuck yeah!

We threw on our bicyclin uniforms…Rough Rider and I with the baggy shorts and leave to Griss to think it was a fuckin race and break out the cute-ass, tight-ass, skin-tight shorts!  Wind resistance, that’s why I couldn’t keep up with homie.  And McD, well, he’s just a freak of nature.  Much love for both those guys and all the Strizzzzipers.

So the Stipers mounted up their bicycles and broke for the trail in a fiery vengeance.  We started with about a four mile climb (those guys are good at pop-a-wheelies) to the Foresthill Divide loop (roller coaster style) connector trail (about 3 miles) to the actual divide loop (about 10 or 12 miles of more roller coaster) back through the connector trail and up to the drop in for the Tunnel Trail (Mob Hill) where the Griss put shame to some downhillers and we all jibbed this log a few times!

From there we crossed the road and pursued the confluence with some fast puckerin low angle downhill to the Ram for some Soda Pop, a dip in the watery snow, and a quick peep at some boobies on family picture day.   I must say, “it was a good day, I didn’t have to use my AK!”

B/Cn with the boys!

this mornin I got up, cooked some ground roots and huevos, wrapped it up in a tort with a lil queso and blue-eyed mexican, it made for a delicious b-burrito.  the fresh brew got the excitement goin.  i actually saddle up the chuckwagon, packed up the pooch and gear, and finally met up with one of my fellow bacon stripers, oso and his faithful companion j.r.  we managed to skin up to incline pk and do a few powder laps.  was a lil heavy at times, but nontheless great fun with no injuries…although, i do remember bein in the air for what seemed like a very weird and long moment thinking to myself, “i’m gonna break my back on that rock i’m gonna land on, back first!”  not a rock but a bush, “thank buddha,” says smokey, “almost had a new masta!”

anyway, we skinned back to the air polluters, smokey and oso gave each other a kiss, as only two straight male canines can!  mcd and i did the usual homophobic handshake, as only two straight humans can do!  (an appropriate disclaimer:  not meant to offend, but to make you chuckle bizaaaatch)

i think i heard j.r. hummin a lil somthin somthin like, “i’m a rough rider you don’t wanna fuck with me!!!”

imgp0234.JPG

j.r. huckin it.  i did an accidental front flip off that same cornice…ya’ll will laugh!
