SSWC08

And another one bites the dust. Literally. This time @ the Singlespeed world championships in Napa CA.

Team Bacon Strip!

GOOD job TEAM!!! we had four riders rolling in TBS stickers and three in the extra crispy bacon capes made by the GrislyBikeGal… AWE SO ME!

I think Stubby did best taking 7th?

Nat

Saw The Nat again from Seattle. He seems to be doing well.

IT was a pretty fun race. One of these times I have to remember to bring ear plugs so I can get some sleep. I ended up just doing one lap of the race. The dust, and the hikeabike was enough fun for one lap that I decided to move on to beer drinking. But for a 35 dollar value we got a tshirt, water bottle, socks, beer, redbull, burrito and bottle opener. So a pretty good deal considered.

Durango next year? Maybe…

Unfinished from Tony West on Vimeo.

Some sick fixie shredding in this. I especially like the trials off the rocks.

New Training Regime

After my lackluster performance @ 24 hours in the old pueblo, Pyrofloptic put me on a new training regime. I didn’t realize he was video taping it. It’s actually more of a work out than it seems @ first look.

Back a few months or so Onesie put on a little show. Jerz finally posted the video. You can see most of the team in the video, so keep an eye out.

gootchie goo my little dickey-poo

My friend Jeff posted about this bike-loving band the Ginger Ninjas! Looks like they’re into loaded bike touring too!

GINGER NINJA LIFESTYLE: “Walk our talk? Hell no, we RIDE it!”
Sometimes the Ginger Ninjas tour on Xtracycle sport utility bicycles (SUBs) built to carry all their gear. Other times they strap their bikes to the back of Millie the Millennium Van—a retired school bus converted by Kipchoge to run on recycled veggie oil. Ginger Ninjas Pleasant Revolution Tour 2007.

You got to love these guys!!!

a good climb?

these guys have game, for sure. i dig the smack-down sounds of them floggin’ their bikes. i’d be stoked to take a crack at riding something like that, maybe try going up them on my single speed. i’m no good at big air though, probably end up lawn darting over a cliff if i tried to descend

Weekend Wrap-up

Good Weekend! Did some Geocaching, some movie watching, some beer sports and some bike riding.

GrislyBikeGeek

There’s Gris crossing things up in Genoa. Woot Wooot!!! (photo courtesey of Keith and Jhanna)

There’s me pimping Reno Bike Project memberships @ the Second Annual Bike-Out or Strike-Out. (Photo by PFE) A $20 dollar suggested donation gets you 10% off parts and supplies plus $2 per hour shop usage (we have a bottom bracket Chase-and-Face tool) and the deep warming satisfaction of helping support the transportation needs of the community and promote healthy and sustainable lifestyles.

What did YOU do and where are YOUR pictures?!?!?!?!

ps I think you CAN post pics in the comments, just use the html img tag.

Saturday is Splatterday!

First. Gris says if we get at least 3 riders tomorrow we can have a fixie-cross class @ Hidden Valley. I’m hoping for EXACTLY 3 riders so I can at least place. But you never know. Perhaps if I trash talk well enough a faster rider will drop out… Anyone up for pre-race pancakes and bacon @ Pegs around 8 or 8:30 followed by a spin out to hidden V? (Precip chance 40%…)

paperboyzAnyway. News item #2: We’re celebrating Smella’s new job @ our house in the evening tomorrow. So come on by and we’ll eat something, burn some logs in the fire and mix her up some Gee-n-Tee’s. Whoooo Yeah!

Third: My RenoFixed homies, whom I dearly love like deformed and slightly mentally handicapped younger brothers, are holding an Alleycat Race. So for those of you who don’t care that my wife got a dream job, you can still do something usefull with your time.

Fourth: Team Bacon Strip would like to thank, praise and accolade Mamma Joan and VNasty for the Second Annual Sausage Fest! Those were some goooood weeeners!!! Can’t wait until next year! (someone post them pics!)

Notes for October

JRFirst, prepare your gnarly scrawney asses for cyclocross. Even JR has committed to racing, and fixed no less! First off this month is Thursday, and presumably every following Thursday for the Outlaw series in Truckee and environs. Second is the Sagebrush series race on the 20th @ Hidden Valley. Our beloved Grisly Bike Geek is the triggerman for the series and says that if we get three fixtards racing he’ll get us the best prizes. As it should be. I say bring it. I’ve got nothing to loose!

wolfy and grisSecond, got this note from my buddy Jason re: the Keyesville Classic which Gris JR and Myself went to last year

Team Bacon Strip,

I am Jason Smith and the new Keyesville Classic Race director. I was last
years assistant director and have the race from this year forward for
awhile.

We are becoming a part of the national calendar this year. For those that
race for point standings this will help.

We will have:
Downhill
Short Track
Cross-country

A non-uscf sanctioned stage race where all riders participating will have to
race the same class with the same bike. We are adding the one bike thing
this year. We really wanted to do it last year but since we had no real
time to execute it was pushed of to this year.

I saw on the blog you have that you fellows were disappointed with not
having the 8 hour race. Sorry. If we could logistically figure out how to
do everything in one two day period of time we would. We would love to add
it to the events if it were feasible.

I would like to invite your team to the race and enjoy another event with us
this coming year. It is only 162 days away. Come hang out, drink beer from
the brewery, eat spaghetti, and camp out…oh yeah, and race.

Thank you for all you support in the past.

Third, and blasts from the past seem to come in twos these days (My dad and I took Jason(from above) climbing for the first time a few years ago. I think I was 14…): My buddy Dustin from High School called the other day to talk about a new website he’s building to be a guide/wiki for adventurism in Kern County. The last guide book was published about 13 years ago. Before that, we had a laminated photocopy of the Stonemasher’s Guide to Kern River Climbing… Good work Dustin!

News of The Bacon Strip

Current bacon related events:

BustigatorBacon Stripper and all around amusing shred-Tard,The Bustigator, did the unthinkable Saturday. He got married! Hopefully you can keep your stones, but barring that, hopefully you can keep your prized collection of TBS stickers…

It was a fine Ceremony at the Tannenbaum on Mt. Rose Highway. Followed by beer drinking, dancing (holycrap can Gris move that scrawney tush!) lewd behavior (my GOD T-Money!) and falling down (T-Money’s mom and Bustigator’s Groomsman). Smella and I made it out ok, though Icandy (that’s the handle I’m giving to RI) seemed a tad on the sheets-to-the-wind side.

daleHere we have Dale checking out the new singletrack that went in on Peavine yesterday. It’ll be done by the end of the week and then on the 6th of October it’ll all be polished up. Read more at Poedunk.com. Final details are still fuzzy, but I predict a pancake (and bacon) breakfast delivered by bike for the brave and hearty volunteers…

Also: Going to try to ride after work tomorrow. Hopefully be on the dirt by 5:30. Maybe Galena. Anyone in?

That’s about it. Stay Tuned for the conclusion of JR and Flux Burner’s adventure @ the Vapor Trail 125…
